Who tells my current provider?

If you’re currently with BT, EE, PlusNet or Sky one of our agents will cancel your contract with them once you’ve placed your order with TalkTalk.

If you’re with Virgin Media or don’t have a phone line, then you’ll need a new line, with a connection fee of up to £50. If so, we’ll ask you to choose an installation date & time. If you’re switching from Virgin, wait until your TalkTalk service is live before contacting them, so there’s no gap in your service.

Will my line rental switch to TalkTalk?

All TalkTalk packages sold today include line rental so when you join TalkTalk you don’t need to transfer your line rental to us, we’ll take care of everything for you. Your services with your old provider will usually cease after your TalkTalk services have gone live, but it’s worthwhile contacting them once everything is up and running to make sure your previous contract has ended.

When you join us we’ll also take responsibility for your line, although we still use experienced BT engineers for any faults. To find out how to join us, visit Joining TalkTalk Phone & Broadband.

To keep things simple, you’ll only get one TalkTalk bill every month which will include a clear breakdown of all the charges including your line rental, package and call costs. You’ll be able to see the monthly line rental fee under Advanced Charges on your TalkTalk bill.

How much will a new line cost?

If you join TalkTalk from another provider such as BT, we can usually take over your existing line to deliver TalkTalk services to your home. We’ll provide you with a date for your services to be activated, and as you won’t need an engineer visit there will be no installation charge.

If you don’t have an existing or active line, or you would like a new one, we offer great value new line installations or we can reconnect an inactive line at your home. New line installation or reactivation of an existing line is priced dependent on your package as below, and will be added to your first TalkTalk bill.   • Simply Broadband: £50 installation charge
  • Essentials TV / Plus TV: £20 (plus your TV installation charge)

Can I keep my Phone Number?

We aim to make joining us as easy as possible, and in most cases we can help you bring your number to TalkTalk. When you place your order we’ll let you know if this is possible, and if we can’t transfer your number, we’ll provide you with a new one.

I don’t have a landline phone number or line, can I join?

Of course. We offer a great value new line installation service for just £50. An engineer will need to visit your home to install your new line, and we’ll arrange a convenient date and time with you when you place your order.

The new line installation charge will be added to your first TalkTalk bill. For more information and to sign up, see our plans. When you have selected your chosen package, simply selectNew to TalkTalk, then click the link for ’Don’t have a landline number?’ which will allow you to sign up without entering a phone number.


How long does it take?

We aim to get your services activated as soon as possible. Your activation date will depend on whether we’re activating your existing line or installing a new line.

Existing line:

Your activation date will be approximately 15 days after you placed your order. You’ll receive your router in the post shortly before your services are due to be activated. You can check your activation date in your welcome pack or visit Track my order.

New Line Installations:

Your activation date will depend on the date you have chosen for your engineer visit. You can check this in your welcome pack or visit Track my order.
