How fast will my broadband be?

We'll give you the fastest broadband your phone line can handle. The top speed will depend on the quality of your phone line and where you live.

Why do you charge line rental for broadband?

Line rental is the cost that all phone and broadband providers charge for an active phone line into your home. Some providers use phone lines that are owned by BT which can mean higher line rental. At TalkTalk we own our network and that's why we can offer such great value broadband and competitive priced line rental. You could save even more by taking our annual Value Line Rental.

Why do I need a new line?

We perform checks to see if you already have a compatible line at your address. If not, we will need to install a new line. If you've recently moved home or are currently with a cable supplier like Virgin Media, it is likely you will need a new telephone line installed.

Why is there a charge for installing a new line?

If your property needs a new line to be installed or reactivated, we are dependent on BT to complete this work. BT charges us for this service. They will send a trained engineer and. this can require significant work at either the telephone exchange or at your home.

When will the engineer install my new line?

You can choose a date for the engineer to visit and install the telephone line. You will be shown a calendar with all of the available dates available and you can select the one that is most convenient for you.

How is my Fibre broadband installed and how long does it take?

Our Fibre Medium customers can setup their Fibre broadband themselves, once you place your order we will send you your new router and setup instructions within a few days. The whole setup process should take less than 15 minutes.

If you have selected our Fibre Large package, you will need an engineer to install your broadband to ensure you get the best possible speed. When you place your order, we will ask you to pick a suitable appointment date and then send you a new router if you need one. Once the engineer arrives the process can take up to two hours to complete.

How is Fibre Broadband Installed?

In the majority of cases an engineer visit is not required and you can simply setup yourself. If you need a new router, we will send you one along with a step-by-step guide before your Fibre goes live and you can set up straight away.

However, depending on your chosen package and estimated speed, you may require an engineer to install your Fibre to make sure you're getting the best possible service. If an engineer is needed we will let you know, and you can book an appointment at a time that suits you. If you need a new router we will send you one before your go live date.

How long will it take for Fibre broadband to be up and running?

Your service can take up to 10 working days from the date you placed the order before you go live. It may take a little bit longer if we need BT to install a new line at your premises.

How long does Fibre broadband take to install?

Self-Install - Setting up your Fibre is easy, we'll send you simple step by step instructions along with everything you need to be up and running under 15 minutes.

Engineer Install - Although it doesn't normally take long for our engineer to set up your Fibre, we recommend that you allow up to 3 hours for your Fibre installation appointment.

How fast will Fibre broadband be?

We have 2 Fibre broadband products, up to 38Mb on Fibre Medium and up to 76Mb on Fibre Large. The speed you get depends on many factors such as where the router is placed and the wiring set up in your home. Your estimated speed is shown on the right hand side of the basket in the sales journey.

When can I claim my FREE mobile SIM?

We're giving you a Free mobile SIM as part of your Plus TV package. Once your service has gone live, we'll be in touch via email to let you know how you can claim it, which you can do at any time, during your contract.

What is Fibre broadband?

Fibre Broadband is made up of fibre optic cables which offer some of the fastest broadband speeds available. Unlike copper cables used for standard ADSL broadband, fibre optic cables use thin strands of glass to transmit information at the speed of light.

With TalkTalk Fibre Broadband you will have a faster and more reliable connection that will allow you to achieve download speeds of up to 38Mbs on our Fibre Medium package and up to 76Mbs on Fibre Large. Unlike regular broadband, streaming HD videos, downloading files as well as uploading photos will never be a problem as with our Fibre service the whole family can enjoy surfing the internet at the same time without slowing the service down.

Can I get Fibre?

The Fibre network is growing! Two thirds of UK homes will be able to get Fibre by Spring 2014. To check if you can get Fibre in your area, click on any of our Fibre packages, enter your telephone number and postcode and we will tell you if you can get Fibre and also calculate the broadband speed you can get.

How long will it take for Fibre broadband to be up and running?

Your service can take up to 10 working days from the date you placed the order before you go live. It may take a little bit longer if we need BT to install a new line at your premises.

When will I be told about my Fibre Broadband engineer appointment?

You will receive your Fibre installation appointment date when you place your order. We will send you e-mail and SMS appointment reminders two days before your installation date. You can check and manage this date at any time by logging in to MyAccount up until 12pm the working day before the appointment.

What if I want to change my engineer appointment date?

You can check and manage your appointment date at any time by logging in to your MyAccount. If you are unhappy with your appointment date, you can change it provided you do so by 12pm the working day before the appointment.

Can I keep my phone number?

Yes, most customers can keep their existing phone number. If you need a new phone line installed at your premises, then we will provide you with a new phone number.

What happens if I'm switching from another broadband provider?

Switching to TalkTalk couldn't be easier. All you need to do is choose the package you want and we take care of the rest. Your old service will be cancelled as soon as your TalkTalk service starts so there won't be any overlap and you won't be double-charged. Your previous provider will credit you for any unused line rental.

Call charges

All calls will be charged at the standard rate except calls to TalkTalk customers which are inclusive up to a max of 180 minutes, then charged at standard rates.

Unlimited calls to TalkTalk customers

We offer unlimited calls between most TalkTalk customers. Unfortunately this offer doesn't relate to calls made through a TalkTalk four-digit access code or dialler box. The maximum call time is 3 hours per call but if you would like to keep chatting you can call back before 3 hours is up to avoid our standard call rate charges.

Value Line rental

Value Line rental (VLR) is a 10% saving on standard line rental available to customers paying in advance for 12 months by debit/credit card. Standard early termination charges still apply. Customers currently on discounted line rental will lose their existing discount. Existing customers already on VLR who upgrade to a different TalkTalk package will incur full line rental cost at the end of the VLR initial term. TalkTalk reserves the right to charge line rental to the full price should the initial upfront payment be reversed or charged back.

Important information about your speed estimate

We've signed up to Ofcom's broadband speeds voluntary code of practice and we'll always give you the fastest speed your line can handle. We've estimated your line speed based on the actual speeds measured on our broadband services. We'll do everything we can to try and give you a great experience online but the speed you experience is likely to be affected by certain things outside of our control like the distance your home is from the telephone exchange, the specification of your PC and the condition of the wiring in your home. You may also notice a drop in your speeds during peak times in the evening and at weekends when more people are using the Internet.

Evening & Weekend calls to UK landlines

Landline calls are available between 7pm to 7am weekdays, and between midnight Friday & midnight Sunday. The offer applies to calls to UK numbers starting 01/02/03/0845/0870 only (excludes calls to Channel Island, dial-up internet, indirect access & all other numbers). The standard rate for calling UK landlines is 11.5p/minute. Calls to 0871 will cost no more than 14.16p/ minute & to 070 no more than 50.88p/ minute. All chargeable calls subject to 16p connection fee. Max 60 minutes/call then charged at standard rate.

Unlimited calls to TalkTalk customers

We offer unlimited calls between most TalkTalk customers. Unfortunately this offer doesn't relate to calls made through a TalkTalk four-digit access code or dialler box. The maximum call time is 3 hours per call but if you would like to keep chatting you can call back before 3 hours is up to avoid our standard call rate charges.

Value Line rental

Value Line rental (VLR) is a 10% saving on standard line rental available to customers paying in advance for 12 months by debit/credit card. Standard early termination charges still apply. Existing customers already on VLR who upgrade to a different TalkTalk package will incur full line rental cost at the end of the VLR initial term. TalkTalk reserves the right to charge line rental to the full price should the initial upfront payment be reversed or charged back.

TalkTalk Box Office

TalkTalk Box Office films are an additional cost. Movie rentals typically range from £2.50 to £5.50 per film. Movies are available for a 48-hour period. Charges for selected titles will be added to your next monthly bill.

TV Boosts

Additional monthly cost, billed in advance. Boosts range from £5.00 to £40.00 a month. All Boosts have a min. 1 month commitment. Once added, you'll continue to receive the Boost until you opt-out or your contract ends. If we are unable to provision the Boost from the start of the billing period, you'll be charged the pro-rated amount. You must give 48hrs notice to remove a Boost. TV Boost structures and prices are subject to change. Programmes and channels are subject to change. Channels on all purchased TV Boosts are available via the TalkTalk Player and the YouView Guide. For boosts to be available instantly, please activate on screen.

The mobile SIM offer consists of a £5.00 monthly discount redeemable on a mobile Value SIM only plan with 100 minutes to call UK numbers, 250 text messages and 100MB of data to use every month. You can double your data allowance if you request your mobile SIM offer online. The mobile SIM offer cannot be used as a discount on other mobile services. If you change your broadband/TV plan or cancel your TalkTalk landline, the discount will be cancelled and you'll be charged the full monthly fee on your TalkTalk mobile bill. Monthly allowance

There is a monthly unbilled allowance applied to all TalkTalk packages.
